Aufbau eines Nuvistors /  Construction of a nuvistor

Nuvistors are in principle elektron tubes. But thea are much smaller and in size not far away from the size of the first transistors. The exist as triodes and tetrodes. Thea appeared fisrt time in 1959 in U.S.A. and where manufactured in germany from 1961.

They are produced in a metal ceramic technology and have a coaxial constructed electrode system. Each electrode  forms a stiff and rigid cone or disc system which is supported by three pins in the ceramic base plate. The electrodes are light self supporting cylinders. This construction enables a shock and vibration resistant tube feature with contemporarily very good isolation attributes during the total life time.

All connections are hard soldered at temperatures above 1000°C in an hydrogen atmosphere. Evacuation of the tube and the soldering process are done at same time under nearly same high temperatures. This are important  conditions to get off of all remaining gases in the tube and to ensure a long lifetime.

Furthermore reduces this heat treatment mechanical stress in the components. The good heat conductivity of the soldered joints and the large surfaces of the electrodes have a good heat emission. So the thermal pollution of the anode and the grid are on a low level.

By all of this nivistors are allowed to work in a higher ambient temperature whereto the design of the metalic tube bulb also amounts.

It is the particular feature of a nuvistor, that this kind of tubes can be manufactured within small electrical tolerances. That means, each type of nuvistor has nearly the same electrical readings on a test bench.
