Compactrons wurden 1961 erstmals von General Electric vorgestellt. Sie vereinigen mehrere Systeme, Dioden, Trioden, oder Pentoden in einer Röhre. Zweck der Entwicklung war es, in der Zeit Umstellung auf Transistoren noch möglichst lange Röhren verwenden zu können. Bevorzugte Anwendung war in Fernsehgeräten.

Compactrons haben 12 Stifte im typischen 3/4" Teilkreis und der Pumpsstutzen lieg nicht oben, sondern zwischen den Stiften am Röhrenfuß.

Auch von Sylvania und japanischen Firmen wurden noch Compactrons hergesellt.

Die Productionen von Compactrons lief Anfang der 1990 er Jahre aus.

Compactrons were introduced 1961 by General Electric. Compactrons are composed of electronic vacuum tube units such as a diode, triode, or pentode  in multiple combination arrays. Primary application were TV-Sets.

The express purpose was keeping tubes in the market for a few more years during the solid state revolution.

A distinguishing feature of most Compactrons is the placement of the evacuation tip on the bottom end, rather than the top end and a characteristic 3/4" diameter circle pin pattern of the 12 pins.

Variations of the Compactron design were made by Sylvania and by some Japanese firms.

Manufacture of Compactrons ceased in the early 1990s.
